Britain’s Nationwide applies to operate here

ONE of Britain’s biggest mortgage lenders has applied to operate in the Republic.

The Nationwide Building Society said it has applied to the Financial Regulator and the British-based Financial Services Authority (FSA) to set up a base here.

The building society will initially offer savings products by post, phone and online. It will not offer mortgages initially but vowed to be a competitive player in the savings market.
