DIAGEO Ireland yesterday strongly refuted claims by the Irish Farmers’ Association that it is abusing its dominant position and endangering the future of malting barley growing in Ireland.

The company issued its statement as the IFA planned to stage a protest outside the Guinness complex in Dublin today over the price being paid to growers of malting barley.

Diageo, however, said it does not buy malting barley from growers but purchases finished malt from malting companies.
