THE Irish market saw further losses on yesterday as two of the larger index constituents, Elan and AIB, made significant announcements.

The ISEQ index dropped 143.18 points to 4,441.86.

Financial stocks had healthy gains in line with the rally in the US overnight. AIB shot up 50c to €7.85, having announced interim results and a 10% dividend rise before trading. Bank of Ireland and Anglo-Irish also benefited from this positive trend moving on 16c and €33.6c to 5.39 and €5.58. Irish Life and Permanent added 54c to €5.15.
