FINE GAEL’S environment spokesman, Phil Hogan says the Government does not have a national inventory of contaminated sites that contain hazardous waste.

“This shocking revelation comes after public trust and confidence in the Minister for the Environment has been shaken by the discovery and mishandling of the Haulbowline site.

“It is simply not good enough that the Government is ignorant of the location of possible hazardous waste sites which could pose a threat to human safety. These sites need to be uncovered, assessed and steps taken to begin remediation work to alleviate any threat to human safety,” Mr Hogan said.
