Siemens wins €40m contract
The baggage handling system from Siemens is part of a €395m development project to build a second terminal at Dublin Airport, which will be capable of handling up to 15 million passengers per year.
The terminal is expected to open in April 2010.
Chief executive of Siemens Ireland Dr Werner Kruckow said the company was delighted to have won the T2 contract. “Siemens is committed to providing the technology and support required to create a safe and stress-free environment for passengers travelling through Dublin.
“Through our design- build approach, we will implement a baggage handling solution that will better enable DAA to foster this environment and meet the needs of modern airline passengers.”
Siemens will design, build and integrate the baggage handling system, which includes 6km of conveyor to route all checked baggage through security screening, before sorting them by flight number.
DAA chief executive, Declan Collier: “Siemens’ ability to design and build a high-quality, integrated, airport logistics solution, as well as its strong local presence, were critical factors in the DAA’s decision to award it the contract.
