THE Government needs to set targets for the greater use of electric cars and electrified trains, according to the ESB’s chief executive, Padraig McManus.

Speaking at the Irish Management Institute’s annual conference held in Enniskerry yesterday, Mr McManus said Ireland needs to use more electricity, especially in transport. He also said electricity costs will rise this year if oil prices remain high.

Electricity is the cleanest and most efficient energy at the point of use, Mr McManus said.
