Six Nations €75m silver lining

IN spite of Ireland’s lacklustre of Six Nations finish, the Irish economy at least walked away from the tournament with more than €75 million on the back of this year’s championship, according to Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

The fact Wales arrived at Croke Park two games away from a Grand Slam meant more Welsh fans travelled than usual. The average home match brings in about €35m to the local economy from foreign visitors. This year’s first two home fixtures — with Scotland and Italy — brought in about €35m and €3m, respectively.
