Coughlan: Biofuel can be developed

THERE is a case to develop biofuel production in Ireland based on locally produced raw materials, Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Minister Mary Coughlan told the Energy Conference in Dublin yesterday.

She said interest has grown in recent years, due in part to the availability of excise relief.

A number of local operations have set up to produce pure plant oil and biodiesel and other developers are looking at biorefining.
