Market in strong showing

THE Irish market had a strong performance yesterday as the banks gained ground.

The ISEQ index lifted 175.44 to 6,839.92 to mirror gains on other European bourses.

In a very strong day for the banks AIB and Bank of Ireland added 42.8c and 38.5c to e15.31 and e10.20. Anglo-Irish pushed on 50.2c to 9.90, while Irish life and Permanent continued the trend up 75c to e11.45.
