THE Irish market lost considerable ground on yesterday, down more than 3% in early trading on the back of poor performances from the banks.

Despite a minor afternoon rally, the ISEQ shed 119.07 points to 6,641.64.

The financials filled four of the top five lagging stocks table, with AIB and Bank of Ireland sliding 71c and 22c to €15.27 and €9.85. Anglo-Irish continued the trend down 42.5c to €9.45 and Irish Life and Permanent plunged 49c to €10.48.
