AN AGREED strategy by stakeholders is crucial to the viability of the country’s €250 million pig industry.

That’s one of the recommendations made by the Teagasc Pig Production Development Unit, which has conducted a study of the troubled sector.

About 7,000 people are employed in the industry including a total of 1,200 on farms.
