No threats to forests, study finds

NO threats to the health and vitality of the national forest estate were discovered in a field study carried out by the Department of Agriculture.

The National Forest Inventory also revealed there are 2.4 billion trees present in the forest estate, which contain 30 million tonnes of carbon.

Forestry minister Mary Wallace said the lack of information on the composition of forests has been an impediment to the management and utilisation of the resource.
