Cattle slaughter up 5.2% on last year

THE number of cattle slaughtered nationwide in October 2007 was 5.2% higher than in October 2006, according to the Central Statistics Office. Sheep slaughterings increased by 10.5%.

Pig slaughterings increased by 1.4%.

The number of cattle slaughterings in January- October 2007 was 0.1% lower than the corresponding 2006 figure.
