EUROPEAN food security is not being given the respect it deserves, according to Independent MEP Marian Harkin.

She told the European Parliament that food security was being derided as if it was a policy from the dark ages.

Noting that the world has enough food stocks to feed itself for perhaps one week, she asked MEPs to consider what will happen when people begin to grow fuel as opposed to food.
