Agriculture attracts more students

TEAGASC figures showing a significant increase in the numbers entering agricultural colleges this year have been welcomed by Macra na Feirme president Catherine Buckley.

Ms Buckley said the numbers enrolled in the level 5 certificate in agriculture have increased from 214 last year to 294 in 2007.

She said increasing optimism in the dairy sector was also illustrated by an increase in numbers taking the advanced certificate in dairy herd management available in Clonakilty and Kildalton.
