Financials drag back market

A SECOND consecutive day of sharp falls in the financial sector saw the Dublin market off by over 1% yesterday. The ISEQ index was dragged 106.09 points lower on the day to 9,395.83.

AIB, Bank of Ireland and Anglo-Irish were down 20c, 20c and 30c to close the week out at €20.95, €15.30 and €15.25. Irish life and Permanent was the only bright spot adding 8c to €18.90.

Similarly, it was a fairly dismal day among the construction stocks. CRH shed 45c to €36.66 despite confirming its first foray into the Spanish DIY market. Grafton and Kingspan also both slipped losing 29c and 28c to €10.80 and €20.42.
