THE Competition Authority has one of the lowest staffing levels by international standards and takes a considerable amount of time to complete its investigations, a review of the organisation has concluded.

Global Competition Review, the international journal of competition policy and regulation, said the authority is falling behind compared to 38 other competition watchdogs examined.

The Competition Authority is ranked well below its counterparts in Britain, France, Germany, the US, Australia and the EU’s directorate of competition.
