Wall Street losses hit market

A SHAKY start to the day saw shares continue to tumble following heavy falls in Wall Street the previous day and amid further concerns over rising interest rates.

The ISEQ Index ended the day down 49.25 points to 9,381.82.

The financial sector was down overall with AIB suffering significant losses early on only to recover slightly to €21.04 at the close, a fall of 13c. Bank of Ireland climbed 10c to €15.30, Anglo-Irish shed 28c to €16.35, while Irish Life & Permanent slipped back 7c to €18.85.
