Lamb prices showed some gains at the factories yesterday after a stable week which brought the recent downward trend to a halt, much to the relief of producers.

While the margin of improvement is minimal at an average of 3c/kg (1p/lb) intensive promotion for lamb both at home and abroad should produce the climate for further gains over the coming weeks.

Yesterday the factories were quoting base prices at 387-390 cents/kg (138p-139p/lb) — up 1-3 cents/kg on last weeks prices — indicating a pickup in the trade.
