Elan gains fail to buoy market

THE ISEQ Index closed marginally lower despite sharp gains in pharmaceutical company Elan.

At the closing bell the exchange had slipped 5.1 to 6,570.5.

Financial stocks weighed heavily on the market with all the main players ending in negatively. AIB lost 36c to 22.66 and Bank of Ireland shed 13c to 16.50.
