Vodafone plays down iPhone rumour

Vodafone Ireland said yesterday that speculation originating in the US suggesting its parent company as the preferred distributor of Apple’s new iPhone product in Europe, was “pure speculation”.

A senior analyst with the US-based research company, American Technology Research, claimed “Vodafone will most likely be Apple’s carrier in Europe for its forthcoming iPhone handset”, citing Vodafone’s 200 million subscriber base as its main advantage.
