British stocks up

BRITISH stocks rose yesterday, paced by Xstrata after the company reported a record full-year profit.

BHP Billiton also advanced, rebounding from five days of declines.

International Power climbed after the utility posted profit that beat analysts’ estimates.

The FTSE rose 79.80, or 1.3%, to 6,138.50.
