Potato needs makeover, says Coughlan

MARKET research carried out by Bord Bia underlines the need for continued product innovation in the potato industry.

Agriculture & Food Minister Mary Coughlan said the research shows that there is an image problem with younger people who believe that potatoes are time consuming to prepare, are fattening and unfashionable.

She told the IFA-Teagasc national potato conference in Maynooth, Co Kildare, yesterday that the findings also show that households are buying potatoes less frequently and in lower volumes.
