BRITISH stocks rose for a fifth day yesterday. BHP Billiton led mining shares higher after the company said it will buy back

FTSE on the up

$10 billion of its own shares and said profit surged on high commodity prices.

The FTSE All-Share Index rose 11.10, or 0.3% to 3,301.77.
