FINE GAEL’S Laois/Offaly candidate Charlie Flanagan has warned that Irish businesses are being targeted by a convincing scam in which they are sent a €700 invoice for their inclusion in a business directory, as if it was a done deal.

Mr Flanagan, a former Fine Gael front-bencher, said his own business had recently been targeted by the operation.

“Businesses in the Midlands and further afield should be vigilant not to fall pray to an elaborate scam organised by rogue traders based in Spain and America,” he said.
