Concern over work related deaths

CONCERN over the continuing high rate of work-related deaths in agriculture was expressed by the Health and Safety Authority yesterday.

While an overall reduction in workplace deaths was reported in 2006, agriculture and construction remain the most dangerous. Figures show 50 work-related deaths were reported this year compared to 74 fatalities in 2005.

In 2006, 18 people died in agriculture-related deaths, the same amount as 2005. And 12 died in construction related deaths, down from 23 in 2005.
