ICMSA seeks action on factory prices

THE faith the Government demonstrated in the beef and sheep-processing industries through the capital investment announced by Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan this week must be reflected in the prices factories pay to farmers, the ICMSA said yesterday.

Chairman of the beef and cattle committee Martin McMahon welcomed the investment but said it could not be just about upgrading processing facilities without reference to prices.

The processing investment and spread of the Beef Quality Assurance Scheme would ensure Irish meats remain of the highest quality, he said.
