Workshop highlights hedge skills

STANDARDS in hedge laying will be promoted at a workshop on the farm of the Franciscan Brothers at the Agricultural College in Mount Bellew, Co Galway on October 7.

It is being organised by the Hedge-Laying Association of Ireland supported by Crann and the Heritage Council.

The aim is to highlight this rural craft to the public and show it as a practical, viable, economically beneficial and environmentally sustainable way to manage hedgerows.

Some 10,000 farmers have signed up for the Hedge Management Option under the current Rural Environmental Protection Scheme (REPS).
