Bio-energy crops ‘must be profitable’ for farmers

FARMERS have the capacity to grow bio-energy crops to meet the country’s requirements, but it must be on a profitable basis.

Irish Farmers Association president Padraig Walshe made this clear as the debate about alternative sources to oil and gas intensifies.

Mr Walshe said next December’s budget will be seen as the critical measure of the Government’s commitment to action on this issue.
