Japanese stocks up

Japanese stocks rose yesterday, led by exporters such as Canon, on speculation the US Federal Reserve may stop raising borrowing costs after a government report showed growth slowed in the US.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average added 113.94, or 0.7%, to 15,456.81.

The broader Topix index gained 13.50, or 0.9%, to 1,572.01.
