Livestock leaders hit out at price cuts

THERE is no market justification for the current round of price cuts being imposed by the meat processors, livestock leaders from Ireland and Britain claimed at the Royal Show in Wales.

The leaders from Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland and the North urged farmers to hold their nerve at a time when seasonal circumstances are proving challenging.

NFU Cymru chairman Ed Rees, Thomas Binns (NFU), Nigel Miller (NFUS), Harry Sinclair (UFU) and John Bryan (IFA) predicted there will be a more favourable market balance from tighter prime cattle supplies in the second half of 2006.
