British stocks hit two-week low

BRITISH stocks slid to a two-week low yesterday as oil reached a record $78 a barrel, spurring concerns higher fuel costs will hit earnings at companies like British Airways and Ryanair.

Both slipped 2.4% in value yesterday.

The FTSE 100 Index fell 57.4, or 1%, to 5707.60.
