CATERING outlets will be obliged by law from today to provide country of origin information on all the beef they serve to consumers.

Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan announced last month that the existing beef labelling regulations in the retail sector were being extended to hotels, restaurants, pubs and other catering outlets.

The new measures will be enforced by the Food Safety Authority through checks to be carried out by environmental health officers countrywide.
