45,000 pupils take part in art contest

A record 45,000 primary pupils from all over the country have taken part in the 2006 Springtime on the Farm colouring and art competitions run by Agri Aware and sponsored by FBD Trust.

The initiative, in its sixth year, aims to broaden children’s understanding of farming, agriculture and food production. Details were distributed to every primary school teacher in the country through the INTO magazine InTouch.

Agri Aware chairman Mairead Lavery said the initiative is helping to educate the next generation of consumers about the important role farming and agriculture are playing in the economy.
