Gaelic Telecom woos the fans
Gaelic Telecom says it will give up to 10% of its revenues to local hurling and football clubs if customers sign up.
The company is a joint venture between Seán Bolger’s Access Telecom and the GAA. It said it would offer cheaper fixed-line prices than Eircom to residential and business customers with savings of up to 20% on some services.
Yesterday’s launch of Gaelic Telecom comes a month after Clubtel, which has the backing of the Gaelic Players’ Association, began its assault on the telecoms market and also offered the inducement of putting money back into the game.
Anyone who signs up to Gaelic Telecom can choose to donate 10% of the revenue from their calls to their local club and 5% to their local County Players’ Training Fund or to donate the full 15% to either their club or county.
Mr Bolger said: “Wholesale line rental, enabling competitors to provide a full service on a single bill, creates the environment in which real competition will develop.”
