Financial shares trade upwards

DESPITE falls across European bourses, shares in Dublin were stronger as the ISEQ index gained 18.89 points to 4217.61.

The main impetus came from the financials, with Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland and Irish Life & Permanent all gaining. Allied Irish Bank, trading as high as €14.00 earlier on, finished with a 7c gain to €13.85. Bank of Ireland added 3c to €10.98, while Irish Life & Permanent recovered from Monday’s falls with a 33c surge to €10.10.

Elsewhere, CRH added 25c to €13.75, Grafton gained 2c to €3.47, while Kerry Group finished 10c firmer at €13.30.
