STOCK markets shed some of their gains yesterday in relatively thin trading, with all key indicators across the globe down by late afternoon.

Better-than-expected trade figures out of the US did nothing to prevent the slide in the Dow Jones, Nasdaq or the S&P 500.

In London, the FTSE fell 1.4% by the close, which is a loss of about £15 billion in value.
