Financials drive market recovery

SHARES in Dublin recovered after a five-day fall yesterday. The banks led the advance, pushing the ISEQ 9.18 points higher at 5661.46.

Buyers returned to AIB and Bank of Ireland, who climbed 10c and 18c respectively. The latter ended the session at €11.20, the former strong at €13.60. Anglo-Irish added 20c while Irish Life & Permanent firmed 22c to €13.05.

Drug group Elan was 25c weaker at €19.10. Elsewhere, Jurys Doyle tumbled 22c.
