MORTGAGE lending continued to surge ahead in July prompting fears that the housing market is growing out of control.

Figures from the Central Bank yesterday show the rate of growth in residential mortgage lending again accelerated, prompting fears that house prices may be in for another surge.

Financial institutions loaned Irish house hunters €1.7 billion in July, a 27.7% rise on last year’s figures.
