EU computer link crashes

Ireland’s link to the European Union interbank payments system TARGET went down briefly yesterday, the seventh hiccup in the system in the last three months.

The European Central Bank said the Irish arm of TARGET was out for about 45 minutes early yesterday but was working again by shortly after 8am.

The disruption to TARGET, which handles large value interbank payments in euros, did not affect payments being made through other EU national central banks.
