Slower growth in house prices

New evidence that higher borrowing costs are taking their toll on the property market emerged yesterday with figures showing slower growth in house prices.

House prices increased by 1.2% during June, the smallest gain since last November, according to Britain’s biggest mortgage lender Halifax.

Halifax also said the north-south divide narrowed further in the second quarter of the year as northern England experienced the strongest house price inflation.
