IRELAND will run out of waste disposal capacity in five years unless urgent action is taken.

According to the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) the country is facing a severe shortage of waste infrastructure and hundreds of millions of euros of taxpayers' and public money needs to be spent to address the problem.

It said in addition to the lack of waste infrastructure, the high cost of the existing facilities were a deterrent to indigenous and inward investment and a constraint on economic growth.
