Germany’s central bank and finance ministry are considering plans to scrap the use of 1c and 2c coins.

The plans are believed to be the introduction of rules to force retailers to price goods in multiples of 5c. It now costs more to make the coins than they are worth, due to higher steel prices, but consumer groups fear moves to remove them from circulation will cause further inflation.
