ANGLO IRISH BANK waved a fond farewell to outgoing chief executive Seán FitzPatrick yesterday with another record-breaking performance that saw full-year profits soar 45% to €504 million.

The numbers were boosted by about €50 million thanks to a change in bad debt policy, but like-for-like profits for the year to September were still 28% ahead of the previous year.

Mr FitzPatrick described the results as “sparkling” and said they had taken the bank to a new level.
