PETER Sutherland, the former Fine Gael attorney-general earned more than €560,000 as chairman of British Petroleum (BP) last year.

According to BP’s annual report, Mr Sutherland’s fees for the part-time role have remained flat since 2002.

Mr Sutherland, who was also Ireland’s member of the European Commission, has netted a fortune of close to €100 million, according to some estimates.
