Weak financials lead market lower

LACK of activity, mainly in the financial sector, saw the ISEQ index fall 45.05 points to close at 5341.35 yesterday.

AIB continued to drop since Monday’s high of €13.00, shedding 21c to €12.78 on very thin trading. Bank of Ireland also slipped, 16c to €10.67, with only 380,000 shares changing hands. Irish Life & Permanent were also weak on €12.05, down 10c.

Irish drugmaker Elan started the session in negative territory and continued this trend into the afternoon finishing 19c at €17.31.
