Market confidence drops in Italy

Italian business confidence dropped in May as slumping consumer demand led to a decline in orders for manufactured goods, a sign the recovery in Europe’s fourth-biggest economy may lose momentum.

The Rome-based Isae institute’s confidence index, based on a survey of 4,000 executives, fell to 94.2 from a revised two-year high of 96.2 in April.
