THE IMI conference got more publicity than it bargained for, thanks to Martin Cullen’s outspoken comments on the second terminal at Dublin airport and the sell-off of Aer Lingus.

To give the IMI its due, its first item on the agenda: Was infrastructure private or State owned? The second part of the opening debate cryptically asked: Are we over-regulated?

As one of a panel of five speakers, Mr Cullen took to the theme with an enthusiasm few would reasonably have expected from him given the sensibilities involved. Not only should the second terminal be owned and controlled by the Dublin Airport Authority but the bulk of Aer Lingus should be sold to the private sector he said.
