FÁS opens hi-tech training facility

ENTERPRISE Minister Micheál Martin officially opened a new Computer Numeric Control (CNC) training facility at the FÁS Training Centre in Cork yesterday as part of the FÁS strategy to increase access to high-technology training for both the employed and the unemployed.

FÁS has invested over €1.2 million in new CNC equipment at the centre in Bishopstown, which will be used to train people for high-skill positions within firms in the medical devices and engineering sector, many of which are located in the Cork area.

Many of these firms are involved in the manufacture of prosthetics from titanium, hard stainless steel or hard plastics, using processes which use high precision computer controlled machine tools, within highly regulated and exacting manufacturing environments.
