Shares begin new year on a high

SHARES in Dublin began the new year on a high, with the ISEQ strengthening an impressive 107.42 points to finish at 6305.25.

Pharmaceutical company Elan, which received approval for its painkiller Prialt just before the new year, led the day’s gainers.

The stock added 1.15 to close at €20.75.
